Nine injured in accident at Vizag Steel Plant Incident occurred due to spillage of hot slag
Nine persons were injured on Saturday following an accident at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL)'s Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

Visakhapatnam Nine persons were injured on Saturday following an accident at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL)'s Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
An official of RINL said the incident took place in the afternoon at Steel Melt Shop (SMS)-2 Department, Converter-E, while clearing the track for the movement of a stock up slag pot, hot slag splashed on four employees and five contract workers causing burn injuries.
All the injured persons were given first aid treatment at Visakha Steel General Hospital and later shifted to Seven Hills Super Specialty Hospital for further treatment.
Informed sources said the accident took place when the hot metal came into contact with water on a ladle leading. The condition of all the nine persons including the contract workers was stated to be critical.
The death of 19 employees including senior officers in the oxygen pressure reduction unit of VSP in June, 2012 is still fresh in the memory of several employees. After that there were several accidents now and then.
Recognised union leader D. Adinarayana told Bizz Buzz that the exact reason for the incident was not immediately known and sought a high-level enquiry into the accident and stringent punishment to all those responsible for it. He also sought best possible treatment to the injured.
